Jack Russell Drawings

Jack Russell Drawing

Meet Elvis! Elvis is our own beloved Jack Russell. A beautiful dog with a kind soul.

Jack Russell Terriers are one of the most beloved dog breeds in the world, known for their energetic and affectionate personalities. As a dog lover and an artist, I have found inspiration in these charming little dogs and have created a series of Jack Russell drawings that capture their unique spirit and character.

Each of my Jack Russell drawings have been hand-drawn from client photos using Derwent graphite pencils on acid-free paper. The result is a detailed and lifelike representation of these wonderful dogs that proudly displays their individuality and charm.

the 2020 Derwent Art Prize

I couldn't believe it when I received the email informing me that my Jack Russell drawing (Elvis!), had been shortlisted for the 2020 Derwent Art Prize. Out of over 4000 entries, only 70 pieces of art had been selected for the shortlist and I was thrilled to have made the cut. It was an incredible feeling to know that my work had been recognised by such a prestigious art competition.

I had spent countless hours perfecting every detail of my drawing, carefully attempting to capture the moment Elvis heard the word “walkies!”. It was amazing to think that my hard work had paid off and that others had appreciated the final result as much as I had.

Although the exhibition was originally planned to take place in London and Paris, unfortunately, the pandemic had other plans. Despite the setback, the organisers quickly adapted and held the exhibition virtually. It was an incredible experience to see my work displayed alongside other talented artists from around the world, even if it was only online.

Being shortlisted for the Derwent Art Prize was a huge achievement for me, and I am incredibly proud of my Jack Russell drawing, Elvis. It's a reminder to me that hard work and dedication can truly pay off, even in the face of challenging circumstances.

About Jack Russell Terriers

Jack Russell Terriers are a small breed of dog that originated in England in the 19th century. They were bred for hunting and were known for their ability to hunt and chase small prey such as foxes and rabbits. They were named after their creator, Reverend John Russell, who wanted to develop a dog that could work alongside his hounds.

Jack Russells are known for their high energy levels and their love of play. They are intelligent dogs that are highly trainable and make excellent companions. They are also known for their loyalty and devotion to their owners.

One of the things that makes Jack Russells so unique is their distinctive appearance. They have a short, smooth coat that can be white, black, or tan, with a patch of colour over one or both eyes. They also have distinctive ears that are folded forward and a tail that is typically docked.

In addition to their distinctive appearance and personality, Jack Russells are also known for their longevity. These dogs have a lifespan of 13-16 years, which is longer than many other breeds of similar size.

Despite their small size, Jack Russells are known for their courage and bravery. They are fearless dogs that are not afraid to take on larger animals or confront danger. This makes them popular choices for hunting and other outdoor activities, as well as for police and military work.

Drawing Jack Russell Terriers

As an artist, I have found that the unique appearance of Jack Russells makes them a particularly interesting subject to draw. Their expressive faces and distinctive features make them a joy to capture on paper.

When creating my Jack Russell drawings, I work closely with my clients to ensure that I capture their dog's unique personality and character. I ask for detailed photos and descriptions of their dog's personality and habits, as well as any particular traits or quirks that make them stand out.

I then use these details to create a detailed pencil drawing that captures the essence of the dog. I pay close attention to the dog's eyes, which are often the most expressive part of their face, as well as their posture and overall body language.

My Jack Russell drawings capture the lively and energetic nature of these small and spirited terriers. The drawings are each hand-drawn in a range of graphite strengths to create depth and texture - helping to bring the drawing to life and make it more realistic.

One of the things that I love about drawing Jack Russells is the opportunity to capture their unique expressions. Each dog is different, with their own quirks and habits, and it is such a pleasure to bring these to life on paper. My Jack Russell drawings include intricate details such as the fur, whiskers and expressive eyes. This attention to detail helps to capture the personality and character of each individual dog.

Whether you are a fan of Jack Russells or simply appreciate the beauty of pencil drawings, I hope that my artwork captures the distinct spirit of these wonderful dogs. Each of my pet drawings are a labour of love that reflects my passion for both art and animals.
